Corpus Christi has a humid subtropical climate. January is its coolest month. While many of our days that we spent there were overcast it was usually in the high 60's - low 70's, The cloud cover didn't interfere with any of our explorations but did prevent many good photos. The photo above is the tallest building in Corpus.
We took a leisurely drive down Ocean Boulevard enjoying the view of the beautiful oceanside mansions.
The landscaping is perfection. Due to the mild climate there are many flowers blooming here in winter.
Many of these extravagant homes are only used for a short time each year by the owners.
Looks like this one didn't have an owner in residence because all of the hurricane protection coverings were in place.
The Nina, a replica of Christopher Columbus' ship is at home in the Corpus Christi Marina. It is one of three ships built in Spain to commemorate the historic 1492 voyage. After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the three ships toured America ports in 1992 before coming to their permanent home in Corpus Christi in 1993 however the Nina is the only one remaining. Expensive repair costs and diminished interest resulted in the Pinta and Santa Maria being demolished.
We had a delicious dinner at the Marina at Landry's Seafood. Nice view out the window from our table.
This fellow was right out the window too. We are enjoying seeing so many birds here in South Texas.
The bay has several of these pretty little gazebos so you can have a picnic or just sit and enjoy the view.
We took the short ferry ride over to Mustang Island one day. We felt that Corpus Christi reminded us of what San Diego was like when we lived there in the 60's. There is water all around, lots of bridges, a huge military presence, and last but not least a ferry.
The touristy t-shirt, souvenir shops have great attention getters.
Let's not count the times that I had Walt turn around so I could get a picture.
This was the hands down winner.
The best sand castle I have ever seen.
We enjoyed our time in Corpus Christi. On our last night there we attended the weekly pot luck that the Padre Palm RV Resort has and we met several interesting people who winter at the park each year. It is a really friendly group and are enthusiastic about being a part of a small park.
