Another trip to see the Salt River horses.
This time he didn't forget his phone or the camera.
All of the wonderful rainfall Arizona has been blessed with this winter has given the horses lots of good green grass to graze on.
It was announced last week that there has been a new colt born and he has been named Ducey as a tribute to the Governor of Arizona because he has been supportive of saving the wild horses.
The horses even have a Facebook page. So happy that Walt got photos of these beautiful animals.
Another glorious Arizona morning.......complete with morning glories.
A trip across the valley was called for. Do you ever look at freeway interchanges and marvel at the planning that had to go into making them work so efficiently?
Another horse destination. These horses are definitely not wild.
It was a perfect day for sitting outside in the Grandstand. We have wanted to go to the horse races ever since they started running but either the weather wasn't cooperative or we had other places we needed to be so it was great to have nothing on the calendar and sunshine.
Turf Paradise first opened in 1956. There have been some upgrades but it is showing its age. It is still a fun venue and we enjoy the races.
The horses that run on this track are pampered animals.
They are certainly beautiful. I read that the track has a large state-of-the-art equine pool for the training & therapy of the 2,200 horses which call Turf Paradise their home during the season.
My favorite races are the ones run on the turf. The horses look so pretty running on the green.
This picture was taken just seconds after the one above. Shows how things can change in just a blink of an eye. The horse with the orange hatted jockey was a ways back but put on a great effort and eventually took the lead. Always so exciting.
The horses seem to explode out of the gate.
It was such a fun day even though we didn't pick the winners very often. It took us to the last race to get it figured out this time.
The day came to an end with one of those always colorful Arizona skies.
I never get tired of the colors that splash across the sky at sunset.
